Congress flirting with Hindutva, Left key in fight with BJP: Sitaram Yechury

CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury asserted on Thursday that the Congress is engaging in “soft Hindutva,” and the party is struggling to confront the challenges posed by this ideology. Yechury emphasized that as the BJP government at the Centre aggressively promotes the “fascist, Hindutva project of the RSS,” it becomes “absolutely imperative” to isolate the saffron party.

He noted that compared to the past, the Congress is significantly weakened today, and many within the BJP and the RSS do not view it as a major threat. Yechury expressed concern that Congress leaders could potentially defect to the BJP at any time. According to him, what is needed is a stronger Left that can unite all secular forces.

Accusing the Congress of collaborating with the BJP in Kerala to challenge the LDF government, Yechury criticized the party’s “compromising attitude,” stating that it cannot effectively contribute to removing the BJP from power. He stressed that the core of the battle against the BJP lies in the independent strength of CPI(M), the unity of Left forces, and the broadest platform of secular forces.

Referring to a recent statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yechury highlighted that the Left is perceived as a “dangerous ideology” that needs to be defeated for the success of the BJP’s project. He asserted that only the Left, with its ideological, political, and organizational strength, can effectively confront the challenges posed by Hindutva without compromising on its principles.
